For the first time we ventured north, north and further north in the Autumnal weather. The Scottish Kennel Club were holding their postponed May Championship Show back-to-back with their usual October Show. Canaan Dogs are only scheduled classes for the May show. Our judge was A3 list (non specialist) Mr Keith Nathan. All four entries were present and correct. He found his best of breed in our Micha de Solemel at Nizzana (Imp Fra) owned by
Mr Ivan Kaye, Miss Alison Byrne and Miss Anne Barclay, he was Best of Breed from Best Dog. Reserve Best Dog and Best Puppy was Mrs Mintos Anacan Dancing on the Wind and Best Opposite Sex/Best Bitch was Anacan Bring the Dawn owned by Mrs Minto.

Again, the temperament was a cause for discussion. It would be good to note that in our breed standard the word confident does appear. I wouldn’t expect nor want the Canaans to exhibit a truly unaware outwardness but the ability to survive in the environments that we expose them to, whether it be in the towns, countryside, farms etc we live in or agility, obedience, showing or other games we compete in. They are a wonderful breed, although not for all and we
should all be there to support them in all we expect them to do.

Moving to the last Championship Show of this rather strange year, our BUBA rep Mrs Barbara Gold has asked me to include the following;- ‘Schedules for the Championship Show are now available and Postal Entries close on 18th October. Online entries (www.fossedata.co.uk) close at midnight on Sunday, 31st October.’ The judge is Mr Chris Quantril who is also an A3 list (non specialist). Plenty of time to get those entries in.

With that I will close and prepare for the journey south.
