Welcome to Winter, we are in no doubt that the seasons are certainly now embracing more wintery times. The change of the clocks is now very obvious, darkness has settled upon us by 1615. Storm Arwen gave most of us a battering, leaving huge piles of leaves now needing collecting but until that’s done the dogs are having great fun charging through them and finding lots of new smells. We made the journey up the country for The Nordic show the night before, Canaan’s were scheduled first in the ring at 0930. Not being a morning person, we chose to stay locally and the show day welcomed us, thanks to Arwen with high winds and snow. Thankfully this cleared before our journey home. There was a change of scheduled Judge with Joe Smith being unable to attend, his assignments we allocated to Best in Show judge Mr Glynn Payne. Thank you to the Nordic committee for keeping us up to date with all the changes. Glynne has had an association with Canaan Dogs for many years and it was lovely to have a judge with his with experience to assess the dogs. Six entries with two absentees gave four present. His Best of Breed was Caiser Samorodok at Anacan(Imp Pol) owned by Mrs Minto, Reserve Best of Breed our RiverRock Underway to Nizzana (Imp USA) owned by Mr Kaye, Miss Byrne and Miss Barclay and Best Veteran was Anacan Talia My Treasure owned by Mrs Minto. Thank you so much for your patience and kind approach to judging our dogs. We were especially proud of our Ruth, RiverRock Underway to Nizzana on her first outing for about two and a half years.
Next weekend is the BUBA Championship show at Stafford on Saturday 4th Dec with Chris Quantrill adjudicating. We are in the main hall, ring 2 after the Schipperkes.
I close with sad news. There maybe some of you reading this that will remember our mother, Monica Mills. She passed away peacefully on Sunday 21st November 2021. Mum had been a member of clubs, had owned her own Canaan and supported the breed at events for many years. Sadly, as she aged her mobility had reduced and she was not able to accompany us so often. I know those who knew her, will join us in remembering her fondly. Funeral details can be forwarded to any interested parties.
I continue with another loss, the sudden passing of our Micha de Solemel at Nizzana (Imp Fra). He has made his mark in the breed, representing Canaans in the show ring and also siring litters here and abroad. He leaves as Top Winning Canaan Dog 2021 and unbeaten by any other Canaan Dog this year. Thanks to all who appreciated his attributes.
