Canaan Dog Breed Judge: Mr Tom Mather

Please don’t be offended by this preamble as I have the greatest respect for those people who have invested time and money in establishing the breed in the UK. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of judging Canaan Dogs several times at this level. I was well aware that one of my top awards might prove to be a little controversial but I felt that the exhibit had so many positive qualities that they should be rewarded. I know the breed is aloof with strangers but they should be confident. At this early stage of the Canaan Dog’s journey in the UK. I don’t believe that fault judging will help the breed and typical, sound stock should be embraced, minor deviations from the standard can be tackled when the breed is in a stronger position. 1st: (MINTO, Mrs ELLEN) Anacan Dancing On the Wind. A handsome youngster, very well proportioned head with well shaped eyes and good pigmentation. Well laid shoulders, good pasterns. Double coat and once he settled, he moved soundly.

1st: (MILLAR, Mrs Christina) Am Ch River Rock Unanimous Decision. A masculine, steady, confident showman with a lovely head and expression. Nicely arched, muscular neck. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Firm topline. Adequate tuck up. High set, well carried tail. Moved well with an easy fluid action. Best Dog and BOB.
2nd: (MOULDING, Mr Martin) Anacan Abu Ghosh. Another handsome Veteran dog, very typical in all respects. Intelligent expression. Good forehand with slight slope to pasterns. Well bodied. Moved soundly but not quite the freedom of the younger dogs. A good ambassador for the breed.

Special Beginners Bitch (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: (MINTO, Mrs ELLEN) Anacan Sing A Little Louder. Feminine and moved out soundly. Well balanced with typical wedge shaped head and nicely shaped eyes. A little soft in topline and just needs to gain a little more confidence.

1st: (BYRNE, Miss Alison & BARCLAY, Miss Anne & KAYE, Mr) Riverrock Underway To Nizzana (Imp USA). Very feminine and moderately made in all respects. Intelligent expression, good forehand with depth of chest and good spring of rib. Some breadth over the hindquarters and she moved out well with an easy, collected stride.
2nd: (MOULDING, Mr Martin) Torefjell’s Rubin. A slightly bigger, well made bitch, calm and confident and she pleases on the move. Good forehand. Her underline is a little matronly. Good hindquarters.
