I last judged this breed at Crufts in 2006, and with absentees today, the entry was very small, so it is not fair to make any kind of judgment as to the state of a breed based on this entry. Given the very small band of dedicated breeders and exhibitors, it is wonder that the breed continues as it stands. My veteran dog entry was absent, so along with 2 others missing in open dog, a grand total of only 3 males presented themselves for inspection. Happily, 9 of the 10 of the bitches were present. Several bitches had beautiful head type but were carrying far too much weight, an aspect I might be slightly more forgiving in some other breeds, but never in a breed which must be able to survive in the desert….and I am not talking about desserts!

With further relaxations to the importing of animals in January 2012, this year was the very first time dogs from Israel were allowed to compete at Crufts. Inna Blayvas made the long trek from her home in Jerusalem with her Canaan Dog, Terush. But it was well worth her effort when she was awarded BEST OF BREED! Well done Inna and Terush.

Post Graduate Dog (Entries: 2 Abs: 0)
1st Anacan Issachar (Mrs E M Minto). good size striking looking square dog with typical expression, vg eye, but would like a tad more fill under the eyes. He has an excellent length of neck, overall excellent conformation, in good hard condition, has very good topline and underline flow, vg legs and tight feet; tail a tad low set Reserve Best Dog, is still young and with maturity can only get better
2nd Kessem Yanis Orly To Khandikhaine (Mr R & Miss N Crowfoot & Shukla). has many excellent qualities, but right now is carrying too much weight and is in soft condition. Head is quite pleasing for balance, stop and skull and muzzle shape, vg ears for set on, but would prefer darker eyes. Is not inclined, as many in this breed, to make the best of himself, but when he does move out, it is sound gait; needs more training as he tends to pace.
Open Dog (Entries: 3 Abs: 2)
1st Babrees French Resistance (Mr I & Mrs J Terry). 6 yr old sand dog of excellent breed type, attractive outline, excellent square balance and conformation, excellent head and expression but would like slightly more almond shape to eyes, otherwise, has correct head proportions, slight stop, correct ear set, excellent neck, VG flow to body, and this showed on the move with an effortless and energy efficient gait. Excellent quality. Best Dog.
Special Junior Bitch (Entries: 3 Abs: 0)
all 16 months, and from the same litter, and of course, given their young age will take time to come into their best.
1st Anacan Happy Anni (Mrs E M Minto) appeals for her correct feminine head and excellent expression, lovely overall balance, excellent neck, forehand, tight feet, made the best of herself in this class of the three
2nd Anacan Silhouette (Mrs E M Minto) littermate of class winner, needing more ring experience ,but having said that, when she collected herself, she showed on the move her very good conformation and balance. Not the eye shape or fill under the eye as the class winner
3rd Anacan Raven (Miss J Kelly) another black bitch who is much finer than her littermates, so will probably take more time to develop. Has the beautiful tight feet, but her lack of ring practice held her back for examination. Has a lovely feminine expression, fairly good topline, quite strong rear quarters.
Post Graduate Bitch (Entries: 3 Abs: 0)
Both of these bitches had soft toplines.
1st Danehaven Ashkezar (Miss D Collins) almost 3 yrs old, fairly typical outline, good headv, good ear set, eyes are a bit round, and need more fill under the eyes, pasterns need strengthening, but she moved better than #2
2nd Anacan Maid For Glory At Danehaven (Miss C Powley) a headache as I much prefer her head for breed type but carries too much weight so that affects her all over.
Open Bitch (Entries: 4 Abs: 0)
1st Bat Yerushalaim Shel Zahav JWW EW WW Ch (Miss I Blayvas) lovely bitch for square balanced outline, this bitch knows how to make the most of herself both standing and on the move in the ring. Elegant throughout, vg head and expression, very sound on the move and used her tail correctly. I would like a bit more almond shape to eye, but is well filled under the eye with correct pigmentation, correct ear set, lovely neck and body line. Her excellent free gait and use of tail made her Best Bitch and Best of Breed
2nd Anacan Sheeza Gem (Mrs E M Minto) close up for quality,4 yr old bitch. Here is very nicely balanced bitch but not quite the forehand of class winner. She has attractive feminine expression, would like a bit more fill under the eyes and they are a bit full in shape. She is for me a more correct type overall compared to the rest of the class, and when she settled moved very well. Reserve Best Bitch
3rd Anacan Sheer Elegance (Ms C & Mrs E Powley & Minto) veteran bitch with excellent head for breed type, what I wanted to see in more of the bitches today with correct skull, muzzle shape, slight stop and vg eyes and ears. Coat is a bit soft, but she is very overweight so this affected everything else, a shame.
