I’m delighted to start this little update with great news for the Canaan Dog. In Our Dogs on line dog show, Dezi ‘Babrees Desert Orchid Via Caoilta’ bred by Jill and Ian Terry and owned by Pam O’loughlin has made the cut in the Utility Group. Dezi is sadly no longer with us but was, in his time, a great example and ambassador for the Canaan Dog and a model we could do with keeping in mind in the 2020’s. He wasn’t shown heavily throughout his life but still holds the title of most Best of Breed wins at Crufts, in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009. Since 2000 no other dog has come close with a few taking the title twice. Good luck Pam and a beautiful photo of Dezi for the group.
In news from abroad, Myrna Shiboleth, despite now being resident in Italy is still actively involved in sourcing possible new lines from the ever shrinking rural areas in Israel. She writes under the title New Bloodlines – New dogs have been brought in from the desert. From a small pack of three in the south, two females and one male that a friend has been following for a long time we have managed to catch 5 puppies, 3 pups from one bitch and 2 pups from the second bitch. Sadly, the male has now disappeared and we assume he has been killed but the bitches have moved for now to a safer location. The older pups, three females, now about 6 months old, are being raised in homes and are learning to live as “civilized” dogs. The two younger pups, a male and a female, only about 7 weeks old, are living in the home of a friend very involved in assisting in the project and are very quickly becoming “domesticated”.
These pups will bring in completely new lines to our future breeding,
So we have things to look forward to!
Something for all of us to look forward to – updates when they are available.
