Another wonderful weekend has passed and this weekend we attended Bournemouth Canine Association Championship Show. It has been some years since we went to this show and the venue was new to us. After much deliberation we decided to leave our Sulu (Micha de Solemel at Nizzana) at home and concentrate on my sisters Portuguese Pointer. As some may know I have been suffering from long covid and although improving my stamina is still quite poor. The Any Variety Not Separately Classified Utility was second in the ring behind a small number of dogs and judging was from 0900, I decided I would not be able to do the early morning needed to arrive on time. So, apologies to judge Sue Bird for our absence. We had a smooth journey and despite a somewhat bumpy car parking field, made it to the ringside the see the SBD/B being judged in AVNSC Utility.. Judging had been delayed and we would have been in plenty of time. Still, we were delighted to see the Canaan Dog being represented and Julia Seidel’s Anacan Meshach being awarded 1st in the SB/B. Well done. Then in AVNSC Open Dog/Bitch had Martin Mouldings two Canaans being exhibited and Anacan Abu Ghosh was given Res in a well-supported class. Again, well done to all. I was so pleased we still attended as we were able to catch up with Julie Hughes who was there to support and assist Martin and Julia.

For many years we went to the Bournemouth CA Champ show when it was held at Brockenhurst. The last time the Association scheduled Canaan Dog Classes was in 2010 when Mr Chris Quantrill judged. He awarded Best Dog and Best of Breed to Lorna Hastings (now Hastings-Menaker) AKC & Lux Ch Lorianna Sirius Star (re-imp), Reserve Best Dog to our Nizzana Ganymede, Best Bitch to Golds Anacan Shoshannah For Amicitia and Reserve Best Bitch to Coombes Lorianna I Will Survive. So many years ago, and some exhibitors are now no longer showing, or even in this country. We miss you all and the dogs.

Looking onwards now to other shows with classes for Canaan Dogs, the next will be Darlington, Canaans on Sunday 19th of September being Judged by Mr Mike Gilcrest, The National on 25th September will be with Judge Mr Stephen Minogue and the Scottish Kennel Club will be holding two shows at the same time. Canaan Dogs as usual have Classes during the May show and our judge will be Mr Keith Nathan.

Looking forward to some rest days and getting back slowly into a routine with the dogs. Thankfully this breed does keep itself quite fit.

See you back here next week.
