Hurrah, today I’m writing these from a super sunny south east and more sunshine is forecast. Ideal for getting our new puppy out and about ready for his first show in May. We have been so blessed with this litter; they have all gone to some super families. Some are first time Canaan owners and some are ‘repeat offenders’. We know we are doing something right when the owners come back for seconds. We have also been very grateful for referrals from other breeders who don’t have puppies at this time and we can reciprocate when possible. This sort of co-operation is wonderful to see and be part of from our European friends.

I have received a request from Jan McLoed (Dunline) regarding the breed notes of 31/03/23. She has asked that it be noted here the following; to remind everyone that when judging we have to assess a dog in relation to the Breed Standard not of the country of origin but of the country in which we are appointed. For example: If I were appointed for, say, Affenpinchers at Crufts the standard would require the dogs to be black. If, however I were appointed to do the same breed in, say, Washington, DC the standard would allow reds, black and tans etc. It’s horses for courses. Were I to judge Canaans in Israel I would judge to the Israeli standard and I hope if your Israeli judge were to be appointed here, she would judge to the UK standard. This is not an option but a requirement of all judges.

I totally agree with the above. We know that we cannot show our ‘grey’ girl in under the FCI standards but as per the notes from last week, there are no ‘highly undesirable’ faults in the Canaan Dog UK Breed Standard. Thanks to Jan for taking the time to read and also comment on the notes.

Hope you all have a super week ahead.
